Dr. Anand R. Gopal is a Research Scientist and the Deputy Director of Sustainable Transportation at LBNL. He is also the co-Director of the Smart Cities Research Center at UC Berkeley. Dr. Gopal's current research is focused on the nexus of technology, economics and policy in enabling a clean transportation future. He uses interdisciplinary methods from engineering, economics and mobility behavior.
Dr. Gopal is part of the International Energy Studies group where he leads LBNL’s global research on clean transportation, with a focus on India. He co-chairs the subcommittee on Transportation Land Use and Energy of the Transportation Research Board and serves on the Transportation Advisory Board of Prospect Silicon Valley.
Dr. Gopal has worked as a Research Engineer at the Schatz Energy Research Center at Humboldt State University and as a Guest Scientist at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research. He has a Ph.D. in Energy and Resources from University of California, Berkeley, an M.S. in Environmental Systems Engineering from Humboldt State University and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras.
