Activating the Microgrid: Response and Repose in Architecture

September 27, 2016 - 12:00pm - 1:00pm
Seminar Host/Point of Contact:

This talk provides an opportunity to reflect on how to bring the technologies of smart local energy into larger cultural conversations, particularly about place. In pursuit of any interpretive synthesis here, and coming from the discipline of architecture, this talk invites a longer perspective on the history of electrification, a wider perspective on design for living, and a critical perspective on perpetual interactivity. From these expanded frames of reference, it asks whether well-engineered infrastructures should be culturally visible or invisible, and how, perhaps sometimes as a result of that relation, values do sometimes change.
