Luisa Caldas is Full Professor of Building Technology at the Technical University of Lisbon. She holds a PhD from MIT, and is a member of the MIT-Portugal program in the field of Sustainable Energy Systems. She was Vice-president of the Scientific Council of the School of Architecture at TU-Lisbon, and is currently the head of the PhD programs in Architecture, Urban Planning and Design. Her research interests focus on evolutionary computation, generative design systems in architecture, thermal and daylighting behavior of buildings, and development of new construction materials in collaboration with the industry. She acts as an expert with the European Commission, for the European Recovery Plan and its Energy Efficient Buildings program. She is co-founder and vice-president of IHSIS, a multidisciplinary research institute exploring the interfaces between advanced technologies and the humanities.
