Larry Dale is an energy and water economist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. In the Energy Efficiency Standards Group, Larry Dale works on a variety of cross cutting economic studies to determine the cost effectiveness of energy efficiency standards.   These include studies to determine the price elasticity of demand for selected appliances, appropriate discount rates to use in benefit cost analysis, methods to estimate the regional employment impacts of efficiency standards, retrospective price analysis, and lifecycle cost methodology.

Dr. Dale has also performed economic impact studies of a range of different environmental and resource threats, including climate change, air pollution, and resource scarcity.

  • Studies to evaluate the impact of climate change on different resource sectors in California, including agriculture, hydropower, groundwater and electric utilities and water utilities.
  • Constructing a fully integrated model of energy and water use in Central California, including water inputs to supply energy and energy inputs to supply water.  This model may help electric utilities identify climate extremes posing threats to grid stability.
  • Evaluating methods to improve air quality in the UlaanBaater, Mongolia.  UlaanBaater has extremely poor air quality—this study identified a flaw and suggested changes to recently adopted efficient stoves program in that City.

Larry Dale has an M.S. in resource economics from the University of California, Davis, and a PhD in resource economics, from the University of Hawaii.
