Dr. Kem Robinson, Senior Scientist and Director of the Engineering Division at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) has been at LBNL since 1999.   Prior to becoming Engineering Division Director in 2004, he has held the positions at LBNL of Laboratory Project Management Officer, Principal Division Deputy of the Accelerator and Fusion Research Division, and Deputy for General Sciences Projects. Among the special assignments that he has had while at LBNL include serving as the project director for the LBNL 2nd Campus project during its due diligence and preferred site selection, the acting project director for the Deep Underground Science and Engineering Laboratory for University of California, Berkeley during the preliminary design, and lead for the LBNL scientific divisions preparations for Department of Energy Health Safety and Security 2009 review of LBNL. Prior to coming to LBNL, Dr. Robinson was the Vice President of Technology at a small for-profit research and development firm and was one of three principals in the company that led an employee buyout from Amoco Corp. He was responsible for developing and overseeing free-electron laser, synchrotron radiation and magnetics development work and among systems delivered worldwide is included the majority of insertion devices (undulators) used at the Advanced Photon Source at Argonne National Laboratory.     Dr. Robinson received his Ph.D. in Physics from Stanford University working on both the first free-electron laser at Stanford and the first storage-ring free-electron laser at LURE, Orsay, France.   His research interests include free-electron lasers, laser plasma accelerator applications and synchrotron radiation sources.
