Bio

Joseph (Joe) Rand is an Energy Policy Researcher in the Energy Markets and Policy Department at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Joe conducts research and analysis on renewable energy, including: renewable energy policy, cost, and market analysis; spatial data analysis; and research related to social impacts, interconnection, and deployment barriers of renewable energy.

Joe's impactful research has been widely covered in the popular press, including the New York Times, Financial Times, the Wall Street Journal, CNBC, NPR, and more. Joe has been awarded a Berkeley Lab Director's Award for Societal Impact, an "Excellence Award" from the Energy Systems Integration Group (ESIG), the Switzer Environmental Fellowship, and the 'Novus Ventus' award from the U.S. Department of Energy's Wind Power Program.

Joe holds a master’s degree in Energy and Resources from the University of California, Berkeley, and a bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies from Macalester College.
