Dev Millstein is a Project Scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, who uses atmospheric science tools, specifically climate or air quality modeling and satellite observations, to inform policy and economic decision making processes. For example, a current project is to characterize how uncertainty in climate forecasts is propagated through water and energy infrastructure models with the goals of improving climate change mitigation planning and providing feedback to climate model developers about which climate processes create the most uncertainty for infrastructure planners. Additionally, Dr. Millstein investigates the impact on the environment of various energy technologies such as how installation of reflective roofing and pavement technologies may affect regional climate and reduce local urban heat islands or how targeted deployment of solar power generation may influence co-benefits to air quality. Dev Millstein received a B.A. in economics from Vassar College in 2002. His doctoral work focused on evaluating the air quality impacts of diesel emission controls and he received his PhD in Environmental Engineering at UC Berkeley in 2009.
