Dr. Arman Shehabi is a Principal Scientific Engineering Associate in the Energy Analysis and Environmental Impacts Department of the Environmental Energy Technologies Division at LBNL. He has over 10 years experience measuring and modeling the energy and air quality implications of building design, with extensive research focused on the infrastructure components of information and communication technology (ICT).
Dr. Shehabi’s research areas at LBNL focus on life-cycle assessments (LCA) of next-generation energy efficiency technologies. He is currently Project Lead for the Building Technologies component of LBNL’s Carbon Cycle 2.0 Emerging Technologies Assessment Team. He is a co-PI for an ARPA-e project with the Molecular Foundry to assess the energy and environmental impacts of next-generation nanotechnology window coatings, and a co-PI for a Google study with the Computational Research Division to model the energy use implications of cloud computing. He also works with the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Advanced Manufacturing Office (AMO) to develop life-cycle screening tools of industrial technologies.
Prior to joining LBNL, Dr. Shehabi held fellowship positions with the National Academy of Science in Washington, D.C. and with the Consortium on Green Design and Manufacturing at UC Berkeley. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from Stanford University and UC Berkeley, respectively, with an emphasis in building energy use and indoor air quality. Between graduate programs, he worked as an engineering consultant and LEED Accredited Professional to develop and implement sustainable building metrics.
