Living Labs of Electric Vehicle Integration

May 11, 2012 - 12:00pm
Seminar Host/Point of Contact:

Electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles are key to making transportation sustainable and climate change neutral. This talk will focus on the electricity grid integration aspects of wide-scale charging infrastructure: the impact on generation capacity, transmission and distribution are dealt with through measurements, modeling and scenario simulations. The advantages and problems of the possible business models to pay for the charging are discussed. Alternative charging and grid-coupling technology (e.g. wireless inductive charging) is considered. The relationship with the transition towards "smart cities" is discussed. In this talk, some on-going living labs on electric vehicle integration in Europe (with a focus on Belgium) will be presented showing how academic research work in this field is brought to practice.   A recording of this seminar is available at: (Slide show works fine, but the speaker's voice did not record, due to microphone problems.
