Energy Management for the "WiFi of Things"

Speaker(s):
Date:
May 6, 2010 - 12:00pm
Location:
90-3122

This seminar will present an overview of the WiFi enabled energy management technologies pioneered by Our Home Spaces.  Our Home Spaces provides consumer facing energy management solutions.   These energy management solutions are based on using the existing consumer infrastructure and devices - this allows a lower cost of entry for both the utilities and less complexity in the home.  Working with low cost low power WiFi chips from GainSpan and Marvell allow WiFi solutions to range from communicating thermostat, to energy monitoring and controlling smart plugs thru irrigation controllers.  The system takes advantage of ubiquitous nature of the Internet to provide demand/response signals into the home and down to the user devices.  Control, monitor and consumer alert/alarms is through existing consumer devices - iPhones, PCs, tablets and Web Portal.   OHS is working is Akuacom and LBNL to demonstrate an embedded OpenADR client on the WiFi module.
