Research Activities at the Vienna University of Technology on Promotion of Renewables and Decentralised Energy Supply

Date:
June 19, 2009 - 12:00pm
Location:
90-3122

Currently, in Europe many efforts are undertaken especially by European policy makers to reduce CO2 emissions, to enhance energy efficiency, to increase the share of renewables and to reinforce competition in the European electricity market. The Energy Economics Group of Vienna University of Technology is involved in several projects funded by the European Commission and by national authorities which deal with these specific topics. In this presentation some insight will be provided on projects and research work with the following major focuses: (i) Promotion of electricity generation from renewables: what are the major lessons learned from currently implemented policy strategies? (ii) alternative fuels and alternative automotive systems: what is their current relevance and what are the prospects for further increase in market shares? (iii) European electricity markets: How did competition evolve and how far integrated are the markets? What are the effects of CO2 emission certificates on electricity prices?
