Current Research on Building Energy Systems and Air Cleaning by Visible-Photocatalytic Oxidation (Visible-PCO) Technology

This first part of presentation is a brief overview of current research on building energy systems in the Department of Building Science, Tsinghua University. Topics include: (1) DeST: a design by simulation toolkit; (2) liquid desiccant dehumidification system; (3) green building and building energy efficiency studies; (4) the Low Energy Demonstration Building at Tsinghua University. The second part of presentation is on the development of a new photocatalyst that can decompose air pollutants under visible (natural) light. Preliminary laboratory tests show promising results of its photocatalytic oxidation (PCO) effects on volatile organic compounds, plasmid DNA, and microbiological contaminants. We are currently refining this photocatalyst and developing practical applications of this new material in indoor air cleaning.
