From the Lab to the Classroom: EETD Outreach to Local Elementary Schools

Speaker(s):
Date:
September 8, 2005 - 12:00pm
Location:
Bldg. 90

EETD staff have a long history of making presentations about science, energy and the environment in local schools. A local non-profit, Community Resources for Science, makes it even easier, as they provide curriculum material, teaching tips, and logistical support for volunteers wanting to visit local elementary schools. Diamond and Slack will show some of the techniques they use for engaging elementary school students throughout the East Bay in questions not just about heat, light, electricity, and global warming, but about fundamental principles of math, physics, chemistry and biology. Ms. Brown will discuss how CRS can assist interested volunteers in making classroom presentations, and we hope to encourage audience discussion about new initiatives for moving science ”from the lab to the classroom.
