Industrial Energy Analysis

Berkeley Lab staff in the DC Office provide technical support to the DOE Office of Industrial Technologies and help build partnerships among public agencies, private companies and non-for-profit organizations that share a common interest in increasing the efficiency of industrial systems as a way of reducing manufacturing costs, preventing pollution, and increasing productivity.

The mission of the Industrial Efficiency Partnerships is to serve as a catalyst to help key industrial market stakeholders (such as: equipment manufacturers and distributors, trade and professional associations, plant operating personnel, consultants, state R&D groups, utilities) create an environment that achieves widespread adoption of "best practices" in industrial energy efficiency.

Policy Development & Evaluation

Public policy can be highly effective in encouraging greater industrial energy efficiency if the policy instruments are carefully matched to the desired energy efficiency goals. Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory conducts research on the effectiveness, cost, and applicability of such policies for national, state, and provincial governments; energy-efficiency organizations; and other influential organizations. Collaboration with industries potentially affected by proposed policies is an integral part of this process. The goal is to link what is known about energy efficiency improvements with the drivers that can motivate industrial facilities to take action; and to study and/or demonstrate policy instruments with the best, lowest-cost opportunity for supporting more energy efficient practices.
