Clean Energy Project Analysis - Lawrence Berkeley National Lab has developed a simple, transparent spreadsheet model, known as ProForm, for the integrated, pre-feasibility financial and environmental emissions analysis of clean energy products. Training and other technical assistance may be available. Demand Response - Lawrence Berkeley National Lab conducts research and provides technical assistance on the design, market potential, implementation strategies, enabling policies and technologies for developing price responsive customer loads in electricity markets. Distributed Energy - Lawrence Berkeley National Lab performs integrated assessment of distributed energy resource adoption, and analyzes drivers, consequences, and barriers to the emergence of a decentralized power system. Electric System Reliability - Lawrence Berkeley National Lab manages and conducts research as a founding member of the Consortium for Electric Reliability Technology Solutions (CERTS), an industry-university-national laboratory consortium that has been formed to research, develop, and commercialize new methods, tools, and technologies to protect and enhance the reliability of the U.S. electric power system under the emerging competitive electricity market structure. Energy Efficiency - Lawrence Berkeley National Lab conducts research and provides technical assistance on the design, market potential, implementation strategies, analysis of enabling policies, and evaluation of public benefit and ratepayer-funded energy efficiency programs. Energy Sector Modeling - Lawrence Berkeley National Lab maintains a complete integrated version of the National Energy Modeling System (NEMS), which the lab updates annually to the latest version of the Annual Energy Outlook. NEMS is applied to various policy issues concerning energy efficiency, emergence of renewables, and distributed energy. Regional Planning - Lawrence Berkeley National Lab conducts research and provides technical assistance to various regional organizations and state policymakers on issues related to electric system planning and resource development. Renewable Energy - Lawrence Berkeley National Lab conducts research on the policy and market institutions necessary to support the continued development of renewable power technologies, as well as the impact of these technologies in the marketplace. While this research frequently focuses on wind power or grid-connected photovoltaics (PV), much of this work is cross-cutting in its application to all renewable electricity technologies. Retail Energy Services - Lawrence Berkeley National Lab conducts research on emerging trends and issues in retail electricity markets and services, with a focus on the supply of and demand for value-added services such as energy efficiency, green power, and distributed generation. |
