About NAREEP
The Native American Renewable Energy Education Project (NAREEP) is a
research, education, and information program that assists American
Indian communities in pursuing sustainable energy strategies. NAREEP,
which began in July 1995, supports Native Americans in gaining greater
control over their own energy futures by improving energy efficiency and
harnessing renewable energy from sunlight, wind, water, and biomass.
NAREEP is a joint project of the Energy and Resources Group at the
University of California at Berkeley and Lawrence Berkeley National
Laboratory. NAREEP conducts its work in collaboration with tribal
governments, tribal colleges, and tribal
organizations.
NAREEP draws on the resources of the
following organizations. Click on the organization name to learn more about these programs and
labs.

Energy and Resources Group
- an interdisciplinary academic unit of the University of California at Berkeley, conducting
programs of graduate teaching and research that treat issues of energy, resources, development, and
international security as the intersection of technological, economic, environmental, and
sociopolitical components
-
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
(LBL) is a multiprogram lab conducting research in advanced materials, life sciences, energy
efficiency, detectors and accelerators to serve America's needs in technology and the environment. The lab is
managed by the University of California for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).
-
Environmental Energy Technologies Division
(EETD) within LBL performs research and development leading to better energy technologies and
reduction of adverse energy-related environmental impacts
-
Energy Analysis Department
within the EETD informs governments and international institutions on energy-related issues to help them
formulate energy and environmental policies.
