Energy Efficiency Goal
To demonstrate that the energy consumption of the advanced HVAC system is at least 30% less than current 10 SEER systems and therefore a 10% improvement compared to 12 SEER systems in both laboratory and field settings in California's varying climate conditions.

With the proposed improvements in energy efficiency the new advanced HVAC system will save approximately 800 kWh of energy on an annual per unit basis while still meeting ASHRAE's ventilation standards. 10 years following the completion of this research the annual energy savings to the State of California from the advanced HVAC system is projected to be 47,000 megawatt-hours per year. This will lead to a 35,000 kW reduction in the peak power demands of the state.
