The magnitude of the lower air temperature in Los Angeles that can be attributed to higher pavement albedo is estimated. Half of the -3°C is due to albedo and half to trees, according to Taha. The fraction of the -1.5°C albedo change is apportioned to roofs and pavements according to their areas (1:1) and their changes in albedos (0.35:0.25), respectively. Thus the lower pavements' albedo causes a 0.4 x -1.5°C = -0.6°C = -1°F change in air temperature.
