We measured the albedos and corresponding temperatures of pavements in Berkeley and San Ramon, California. Although the data were taken late in afternoons in August and September--not the peak of pavement temperatures--the dark pavements are quite warm, and the increase in albedo decreases the pavement temperature by about 8°F for a change in albedo of 0.1.
