Nan Zhou is a Post Doctoral Fellow with the China Energy group, and the Electricity Markets and Policy group at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab. Zhou's current research is intended to build China's capacity to evaluate, adopt, and implement low-carbon development strategies. She participates in several related initiatives within this Low-Carbon Development Paths area. Additional work at LBNL has focused on the potential for distributed generation and co-generation system in the U.S., Japan, and China; characteristics of energy consumption in commercial prototypical buildings; and studies of utility tariff structure, building energy consumption, and DG technology.

Zhou has extensive research and teaching experience in architecture, as well as experience with engineering systems. Her earlier research focused on improved energy conservation in architectural designs, validation of thermal effects from roof spraying and roof lawn on an insulated building, combined heat and power, evaluation of wind energy and wind characteristics, water usage, and the network of an existing heat supply businesses in the Tokyo Station area. Additional research in China has focused on the thermal environment of the Yao-Dong in the Loess Plateau, and on standards for energy efficiency and environmental design in residential buildings.

Zhou has an architecture degree from a Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology in China, a Masters in Architecture from Kyushu University in Japan, and PhD in Engineering, Kushu Sangyo University, Japan. She has worked as an assistant professor in Department of Architecture, Kyushu Sangyo University and Department of Environment Engineering, University of Kitakyushu, Japan.
